Decorated Bride

Anxiety, finery, flowers, and lace—the outward trappings of a wedding. In Decorated Bride, I show that these accessories are actually a distraction from the true meaning and commitment of marriage. My original concept for this piece was to create a short animation by taking multiple photographs as I drew an initial outline of a girl and started adding external traditional wedding elements. This piece was created during the after school Art Club at my high school and was self-directed. As I added decoration to the bride—flowers and a veil—her happiness was obscured. I intentionally left the upper left quadrant of the drawing empty to contrast with the anxiety producing swirl of the wedding accoutrement. I decided that this charcoal drawing captured my original intent better than my initial concept.
