The Female Reproductive System PSA

The female anatomy is a complex but beautiful system.  Even though many people are born with a female reproductive system, not everyone knows all the parts of it or what they all do.  It is important to learn about the body and so a few surveys were made to see how much people know of their reproductive system.  Many women explained that knowing their genitals would not only help with telling how healthy they are but also make it easier when talking to doctors (Intimina, 2020).  This knowledge helps with self-confidence and helps teach sexual interactions and normal body functions.

A survey conducted in October 2020, involved two-thousand women in the United States of America.  Figure 1 shows women were able to identify of the female reproductive system.  Even though most women were able to point out the external parts of the female anatomy, more were unsure when it came to the internal anatomy.  Over half the number of participating women could not identify the vagina, a little less than half could not identify the cervix, and a little over half could not identify the uterus (Intimina, 2020).

When asked who the women blame for their lack of knowledge, the top three are: teachers, parents, and government educational standards.  Figure 2 shows the percentages of the other organizations and people that the subjects say are the cause for their education (Intimina, 2020).

A similar survey was conducted with 1035 women in the United Kingdom in 2019.  Figure 3 shows that a greater lack of knowledge of the external female reproductive system.  Another question that was asked was if women should wash their vagina.  Fourty six percent of women said you should wash your vagina.  Figure 4 shows the different choices the choices they picked for washing.  The majority, thirty-three percent, that said yes to washing the vagina said that you should do it daily.  Nineteen percent say that the vagina should be washed with water (Waldersee, 2019).

To teach people about the female reproductive system, I created an infographic using Canva.  I drew two images to represent the female external (Figure 5.) and internal (Figure 6.) reproductive system.  I used elements provided through Canva by Sketchify and Marketplace Designers to help make the information more eye catching and exciting.

I hope this infographic draws attention to people to want to learn more about their bodies.  Our bodies are all unique and it is important for people to know that it is normal.  The female reproductive system takes care of itself, clean itself, it can be used for pleasure, to procreate, and it should be explored (Wojcik, 2020).
