Barnett and Cayo
Creating a character and imbuing it with personality with a flick of the pen is a process. Can implied texture, color and shape create a character? At the suggestion of my teacher in the afterschool Art Club at my high school, I created a pair of characters with interlocking stories. First I took notes about my characters' traits. One would be the leader and the other would act out. I wanted my lead character to be outgoing, silly and open so I painted a bright yellow figure with a smooth head and rough hands who was smiling and extending his hand in greeting. His friend is always making fun of situations and people as well as clowning around. I painted him orange/brown with a metallic sheen to show a little edge, and showed him covering his teeth-filled mouth while laughing.
